About this artwork
"One" is one of my works in which I wanted to merge the possibilities of photography and the aesthetics of painting. It is my homage to Cubism, a style that has always fascinated me with its play on perspectives and shapes.
The special effect in "One" was created by the precise placement of the model in a strip of light. This strip creates a visual trick: one might think it was a double exposure or a post-production retouch, but that is not the… case. Everything that can be seen was created in a single moment. The light itself formed the illusion of a second face - a purely optical illusion.
For me, this image represents the combination of artistic concepts and technical precision. It shows how careful planning and control of light and composition can create completely new forms of expression in photography.

Joachim Bergauer is an internationally acclaimed photographer with a multifaceted, sophisticated style that straddles contemporary art and fashion photography. A surrealist visionary with classical training in fine art, he understands how to merge photography and graphic design into unique works. His minimalist color and black-and-white compositions are reminiscent of the great art movements of the 20th century, influenced by Fauvism, Conceptual Art, and Minimalism. Bergauer experiments with new aesthetic concepts, explores boundaries, and creates works of great inner power. Color and form become carriers of emotion and meaning—graphically clear, metaphorically condensed, stylistically pointed. His visual language combines avant-garde approaches with harmoniously balanced compositions. With over 100 international awards—including "Photographer of the Year" (Japan)—Joachim Bergauer is one of Europe's leading photographers.
