About this artwork
“Center of Calm” – Meditative Acrylic Painting in Watercolor Aesthetic (100 × 100 cm / 39.4 × 39.4 in)
“Center of Calm” unites stillness and movement in harmonious cycles. Transparent, flowing layers of color overlap gently, evoking the continuous rhythm of breath, time, and life itself.
Original painting, hand-painted on canvas
Size: 100 × 100 cm / 39.4 × 39.4 in
Framing: optional fine shadow gap frame made of linden wood
Technique: acrylic paint… in watercolor aesthetic
My painting technique — highly diluted acrylics applied in multiple translucent layers — gives the work both depth and lightness. I often paint without brushes, using my hands to stay directly connected with the canvas and to feel the flow of water and life.
“Center of Calm” is an invitation to pause — a meditative interplay of transparency and form that radiates calm, balance, and quiet continuity.
Johanne Bossmann is a Cologne-based painter who works primarily with highly diluted acrylics on raw canvas, drawing from a background in both art and art therapy. She applies pigments by hand, creating rhythmic, transparent layers reminiscent of watercolor, resulting in meditative abstractions defined by gentle color transitions and organic forms. Her process emphasizes intuition and material dialogue, balancing minimalism with emotional depth. Through harmonious palettes and soft, atmospheric compositions, she seeks to evoke stillness and acts of pause, inviting viewers to experience serenity, balance, and a refuge from life’s overstimulation.
