About this artwork
While visiting his wife's relations in northern Guangdong they were invited to a meal in Shaoguan where the family were peasant farmers of the more modern kind living in government modern accomodation rather than their former run down but historic dwellings.
The family was extensive and all seemed to contribute to the preparation of the meal which was typical of the local cuisine. This comprised of many bowls and dishes of a huge variety of both… vegetable and meat and fish all of which were layed out on a single table including individual fired burners to keep food hot and still cooking. This produced a lot of steam and the large number of people added to the humidity and produced an interesting juxtaposition of images which he decided to use a multiple exposure in order to interpret the atmosphere here presented.
