About this artwork
On one of his may coastal expeditions in North Somerset he visited this area in winter to take advantage of the lack of crowds and the softness of light. On this occasion he was testing a recently acquired film camera it being a Zenza Bronica using Kodak Portra emulsion. Having loaded the camera a selected the image through the viewfinder he exposed the film and decided to secure a second exposure from a different vanatge point. Seredipity kicked…
in and the wind-on mechanisim skipped the internal sprockets and the film failed to advance which was unknown to him at the time.
When the film was developed he discovered a very exciting image of the kind that he would often endeavour to create intentionally, a double exposure of the subject from different vanatge points.
The resultant image is therefore one a complete chance or accident but successfully fulfilled his creative intentions for the day.

John Brooks is a British visual artist who is currently living and working in Bristol, UK. Through his photography, Brooks wishes to project a visual and emotional response that extends far beyond the pictorial. His photographs, both analogue and digital, often employ a layering affect where a subject becomes doubled or tripled, thereby creating an illusion of volume, depth and spatiality. His photographs can reflect the imposing nature of urbanism and play with perspective to create an illusory world.
His other works include well though through abstract studies and minimalist works, some architectural and some topographical.
