About this artwork
It was midday in Joshua Tree when a short rest in my vehicle was interrupted by this tree. Set back from where I had parked, it stood apart from the smaller Joshua trees around it, older, weathered, upright, strong yet gentle.
Its long arm reached over the dead and dying yucca beneath it like a final blessing. In the distance, younger trees seemed turned toward it, as if seeking direction. I walked over quickly, but once I saw it clearly, there… was nothing to force. The composition felt complete.
