About this artwork
There are places in the world that are holy to me. Places with a special presence, full of natural energy, mysticism and mystique not touched by humanity. They are iterations of nature, and once found they literally speak to me through my paint. I started searching for these places and spaces back in 1994 when I was living on Mackinaw Island. I would work all day as "The Village Blacksmith", but at night I often walked, wandering curiously through… the dark woods. After all, the island, Mother Nature and the wild came alive at night, and so did my bond with nature (albeit I now hike in the daylight). This bond represents the most important reason (of many) why I use nature as my primary vehicle for expression in this mad world. Its temporary and fragile yet persistent, as are the images I capture. The color, brush stroke and linear elements are all a parts of that equation of impermanence and persistence. They are symbiotic.
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
