About this artwork
It was obvious when I walked the area that at some point the local ecology had changed leaving dead and dying trees in its wake. Adding to that there was great visual evidence of heavy storm(s) that passing through wiping out or damaging some of the remaining tress. However, over time and with a few natural building blocks nature had started anew. The rotted trees and rainwater fed the Earth, pines had come into play, old tree trunks were taken… over by flowering vines while others sprouted shoots of persistent growth. At the focal point of this scene sat a mighty fighter, a grand old tree once halved by a storm. It had survived the ecological changes and storm's brutality and was busy rebuilding its stature one ring, one branch and one leaf at a time. I tried to imagine the history of this tree as well as the experiences it has had over the passage of time, and those imaginings persist throughout my paint.
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
