What I wouldn't give to be back in Jamaica!
This little pot with a big presence sat on a table just outside our room at the Jamaican Inn. It was one of the sentinels guarding the entrance to the beach and greeted me each morning. Early in the AM on one of those mornings I sat half asleep at that table waiting for my first sips of coffee to counter the 150-proof rum from the night before. I was just… taking in the sunshine, the warm air and waking slowly to the scene before me. The sun glistened thought the petals, the colors were brilliant, random yet orderly and the structure of composition was just what I needed as a distraction from hangover. In mid-stare a Caribbean breeze blew through tossing petals all around the table and into my coffee. I took a sip, with petals and all, and realized that this was something to capture.
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
