The pandemic shut-in is really tough, but creatively mind blowing! I took this image from my place of peace, Sans Souci on Lake Huron. As I type this I can just feel the breeze, smell the air and feel more alive.
The best way to describe the creative process for this painting… is as a knock-down, drag-out, dirty bar brawl battle between the subject matter, the oil paint and my psyche. I developed a slightly different technique for this work reflective of Action Painting combined with a form of drawing in the paint as a way of conveying imagery with, about and around the color and texture. I love the end result and will continue to use this new technique for the immediate future (that is once I've recovered form this work!).
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
