About this artwork
Working on intermission was a fun process of working backwards then forward. The background of collage was followed by lining up confident silhouettes leaving them wrapped in patchwork color and layered texture. Polka dots, grids and painterly marks weave across abstract forms with deep indigo and citrus flashes that pull the eye. The layered surfaces and lively brushwork suggest motion and personality—each figure reads like a daring character sketch… about self-expression. Witty, mysterious, and unapologetically adventurous, this piece makes a striking focal point for a living room, studio, or office that’s ready to take a stylish risk.
After decades in the corporate world, Joyce now devotes herself fulltime to her art. Using layers of paint, collage, and mixed media, her technique involves an intuitive, experimental approach. Joyce creates abstracts inspired by nature, travel, and personal memories, often layering circles, motion, vibrant color, and expressive female figures. Her captivating works embody resilience, boldness, and an enduring sense of joy and determination.
