This artwork has the shape of a somewhat geometrical flower because it doesn't represent a particular type of flower but flowers as symbols of beauty, mystery, and the spiritual in general. For its creation I was inspired by the colour interaction in the Prism paintings of Sonia Delaunay, one of my favourite artists. The spiral shapes in the central parts, made with embroidery and three-dimensional weaving, are ancient shapes that symbolize the growth… and development of the universe.
Jules Vissers, an internationally acclaimed textile artist, emanates a unique blend of European education and intrinsic passion for traditional textile crafting. By manipulating Italian yarns through techniques like hand-tufting, embroidery, and crochet, she masterfully translates Florence's tapestry heritage into a dazzling mix of abstraction and figurativeness. Her work aims to depict the quest for beauty, love, and connection, positioning these emotions as remedies to alienation, emanating harmony and belonging.
