About this artwork
According to 2025 statistics in South Korea, approximately 700,000 people in their twenties and thirties are classified as economically inactive, or “taking a break”—twice as many as a decade ago. This reflects a structural problem rather than an individual one.
Yet “taking a break” often means losing direction. In a society where falling behind is seen as failure, barriers to employment continue to rise, while isolation and disconnection become… increasingly common.
This work is inspired by the outline used at crime scenes to mark the position of a body. Here, however, the figure traces the outline of their own body, revealing a state of social erasure before physical death. Rather than depicting individual failure, the work asks how society defines whose lives matter.
