About this artwork
As meritocracy has become a dominant social value, people increasingly judge themselves in the same way they judge others. In this process, many experience self-loathing and anxiety. The desire to become a better version of oneself can ultimately… transform into an act of self-denial and relentless self-criticism.
This work explores these conditions through the image of a figure pointing an accusing finger at its own shadow. The shadow represents the hidden self—the imperfect, vulnerable, or undesirable aspects that one would rather deny. What appears to be an act of condemning someone else is, in fact, directed inward.
None of us is free from imperfection. Ultimately, this work speaks of the moment we stop condemning ourselves and begin to accept who we are, with all of our flaws.
