About this artwork
Since the Industrial Revolution, humanity has made rapid technological advancements and accumulated substantial capital. Based on this, scientific and medical technologies have developed, increasing life expectancy, and transportation and the internet have connected the world into a massive market. These advancements have satisfied many human desires, yet one unresolved yearning remains: the desire to turn back time. Although time travel is impossible,… people long to escape regret and self-blame. This work expresses the longing to return to the past and suggests that when all desires are fulfilled, the will to move forward disappears. In this sense, it may be fortunate that regret remains.
A painter by profession, Jungwan Chae boldly brings his military background to life. He employs anonymized, bald figures in suits to critique society, utilizing simple yet impactful beans to depict modern social realities. His art passionately expresses individual and collective dissatisfaction, stimulating dialogue about societal issues.
