About this artwork
"Unity Dance" is a visual and spiritual celebration of the Americas as one living body. Across the surface, the flags of every nation in the Americas form a vibrant tapestry, woven together over a textured brown ground that recalls tree bark—our shared roots, history, and ancestral soil. From this living “trunk,” branches, leaves, and twinned maracas emerge, echoing the rhythms, festivals, and musical traditions that move our cultures forward.
Thirteen… maga flowers bloom throughout the composition, each one a symbol of rebirth, new cycles, and the courage it takes to begin again. At the center, a feminine figure dances a dance of unity, carrying the weight of history and the hope of the future in her body. Her movement gathers all the flags, all the stories, into one powerful gesture. Because in a world that keeps trying to divide us, the only thing more powerful than hate is LOVE. ❤️

Karen Coates is an experienced artist based in the United States whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in Italy. In addition, her art has been featured in publications such as HOW Magazine. Coates refers to her multi-layered technique as "StrataLIfe", as it investigates the vast layers of experiences that we carry around. Through different shades of colors, textures, reflections, and movement, she invites viewers to reflect upon themselves, as if looking into the mirror of one's soul.
Karen is a contemporary painter blending bold color, symbolism, and storytelling. Her art explores transformation, resilience, and hope- drawing from personal journeys and universal dreams. Her art is instantly recognizable for its bold, saturated colors and dynamic brushwork, often featuring female figures, mythic creatures, and natural motifs like sunflowers, koi, and butterflies.
