About this artwork
This abstract mixed-media painting is a classic example of non-representational or informal art, rendered in bright, cheerful colors and presented in a horizontal format. I primarily used a turquoise copper pigment, which I mixed with white, gray, and the rust I used. This is combined with ash, which gives the artwork a remarkable tactile quality, as well as orange-red rust and white pigments. The title, "A Thirst for Adventure," refers to the dynamism…
of the painting. Everything seems to be in motion, but in a rather friendly and fresh way. The colors evoke the sea, or perhaps a somewhat rougher swell, and with it, the desire for something new, for fresh air, new thoughts, for wind and energy that allows one to think differently.

Katja Gramann is a German artist whose painting follows the tradition of Art Informel. All of her works are consistently abstract. Her works have been exhibited in Germany in numerous solo and group events. Katja Gramann has also been successfully represented by a gallery in Belgium since 2022. Her participation in a summer exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art in London in 2022 also brought her international recognition. The artist pursues three styles in her painting: acrylic painting, mixed media (using ash, pigments, rock flour, charcoal, rust, and paper), and abstract collages made of fine Chinese paper, which Gramann colors herself, dries, and then arranges into a painting in a multi-layered process. Since 2021, Katja Gramann has been teaching painting at independent art academies in Vienna, Kolbermoor, and Bad Heilbrunn.
