About this artwork
The work "summerday in Stuttgart" is the first from the "infra-red" series. The model for this was a so-called "thermo image" of the capital of Baden-Württemberg, which documents the heat stress on a midsummer day in environmental science.
What is particularly evident in this work is the intensely reddish glow of the metropolis's street network, a glowing network of asphalt that stands out clearly from the cooler yellow and green tones of the surrounding… area.
Ken Spohrer uses painting, photography, and drawing as expressive media, influenced by his formative experience at the Guggenheim Museum. His works are characterized by complex techniques and an experimental style in which he plays with light, perspective, and color. With each painting, he invites the viewer to experience wonder, amazement, and the excitement of the moment.
