About this artwork
The image depicts the facades and building sections of a monastery. On the front wall is a quotation from the apocryphal Gospel of Mary Magdalene (Berlin Codex 8502, Mary's Gospel [The Nag Hammadi Library]). The Coptic text translates as: "What is still hidden from you, I will reveal to you."
The painting was created without the aid of artificial intelligence. Through a lengthy process involving the layered application of tempera and oil paints,… among other materials, the work was created using a traditional painting technique and the latest high-quality materials.
The Monastery, 24x30 cm, 2024, tempera and oil on HDF (high-density fiberboard)
Knut Müller is a painter trained at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts (HGB Leipzig) who primarily uses mixed media techniques in tempera and oil, inspired by the Old Masters. He paints landscapes in a sophisticated blend of parallel and fan perspectives, combined with mathematical and musical compositional methods. His style references the Early Renaissance and combines traditional pictorial composition with experimental spatiality. His works create a quiet, mysterious atmosphere that evokes emotion and simultaneously invites intellectual contemplation.
