About this artwork
The Art Basel Miami week veteran, Gebhardt presents each figure in his series on a distressed… panel of recycled crate wood, a departure from convention that adds an extra layer of interest. His partial figure depictions, sketched, scratched, and aggressively painted, are not just visually striking but also emotionally resonant. The rawness and power of these figures are undeniable, symbolizing the resilience and tenacity required to compete in the elite field of motor racing.
The Indy 500, a century-old race, is aptly known as the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. This single-day sporting event annually attracts over 300,000 fans

« My Paintings are a “paintumentary.” Each piece is the story of an actual person, their hardships, successes, experiences, or an archetype of myself. »
Known for raw, distressed surfaces and large-scale figurative works, Gebhardt explores identity, resilience, and imperfection through unconventional materials and techniques. For 16 years, he has exhibited during Miami Art Week, building an international collector following.
Together with his wife, contemporary abstract artist Angela Gebhardt, the two maintain distinctly independent practices. Angela is recognized for her large-scale abstractions, layered surfaces, bold use of color and texture, and mixed-media assemblages.
