About this artwork
Gebhardt, a seasoned veteran of Art Basel Miami week, brings a unique twist to these paintings. Each figure in this series is showcased on distressed panels crafted from recycled crate wood, offering an intriguing departure from the ordinary. Through his signature style of sketching, scratching, and distressed painting, he delivers not only visually… striking pieces but also emotionally resonant works of art. The raw power and authenticity of these figures symbolize the unwavering resilience and tenacity required to compete in the elite field of motor racing.
For a century, the Indy 500 has held its place as the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, drawing over 300,000 passionate fans to the hallowed grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). The 107th running of the Indy 500 will take place this Sunday, May 28, 2023.

« My Paintings are a “paintumentary.” Each piece is the story of an actual person, their hardships, successes, experiences, or an archetype of myself. »
Known for raw, distressed surfaces and large-scale figurative works, Gebhardt explores identity, resilience, and imperfection through unconventional materials and techniques. For 16 years, he has exhibited during Miami Art Week, building an international collector following.
Together with his wife, contemporary abstract artist Angela Gebhardt, the two maintain distinctly independent practices. Angela is recognized for her large-scale abstractions, layered surfaces, bold use of color and texture, and mixed-media assemblages.
