About this artwork
The Contemplatrice is the spectator of the questions and emotions that she herself releases in the person looking at her. Is she vulnerable or provocative? Both at once? Her posture questions; the lower part of her body is closed - her legs almost contorted - while her bust is open. It is her gaze that must retain that of the spectator.
The atmosphere in which she is immersed, oppressive and chaotic, contrasts with the apparent serenity of the young… woman: contrast of emotions, contrast of colors.
Through this work, I wanted to explore the nuances of vulnerability and provocation, while leaving room for the viewer's interpretation. The colored spotlights, the diffuse lighting effects, the dilapidated nature of the place, aim to place the scene outside of time where the gazes that cross must become the true driving force of the work.
Luc Josserand, a French artist raised in a family of artists, creates both traditional and digital works. Mastering figurative drawing, he uses oil and gradually turns to digital art. His works are anchored in a clever dialogue between abstraction and figuration. A true commentator on the soul and the human condition, he explores impressive dualities in his creations: fragility and strength, sensuality and restraint. His characters come to life, provoking a disturbing interaction with the viewer, inviting a deep reflection on the nature of art and existence.
