"The Opening" is an oil painting created in early autumn 2025.
I wanted to represent a young woman seen from above, from the position of a being who contemplates those below.
The title refers to the breakthrough in the wall, a window to another world.

L. Joss (Luc Josserand) is a French painter, born in 1964 in Firminy.
L. Joss develops a pictorial practice centered on the human figure and the conditions of its presence.
Trained in a demanding approach to representation, his work has gradually shifted its focus towards areas of instability, where the continuities of reality fragment. His recent paintings introduce distortions that affect both space and perception, as if reality itself were becoming uncertain.
At the boundary between matter and consciousness, his work engages painting in a field of tension where the visible is no longer sufficient.
Painting, therefore, no longer consists of representing reality, but of experiencing its formation.
