I took this film photograph in Iceland with a Miranda Sensorex, in the heart of the volcanic plains crossed by the wind and the silence.
In these black, mineral landscapes, the Icelandic horses seemed to emerge from the earth itself, like ancient beings shaped by cold, lava, and centuries. The film photography lends a particular quality to the images: an imperfect, organic, almost timeless softness that reinforces the feeling of memory and primal… power. Manes billowing in the wind, dark dust stirred beneath their hooves, and the stark immensity of the landscape combine to create a scene where reality takes on an almost mythological dimension.
Through this photograph, I was less interested in freezing a race than in capturing a free and primal energy, a breath from the north, between wild beauty and the silence of origins. In this cold, ashen light, the horses become the guardians of an untouched world, moving forward at a pace that is almost ethereal.
Laurent Parienti is a French artist-photographer whose work explores light, silence and Mediterranean landscapes through a minimalist and contemplative approach. After traveling to different regions of the world, it was in Greece that he found his true artistic home. Inspired by the Aegean Sea, the Cyclades, and Greek mythology, he developed a timeless photographic style where blue, white, and light become an emotional language. Through his Aegean Reverie series, he creates silent and contemplative images that invite the viewer on an inner journey. Alongside this Mediterranean work, for several years he has been documenting the memory of the nomadic Moken people, living between Burma and Thailand, in an approach where documentary meets a more poetic and sensitive style of writing.
