The painting “The Mirror of Expectations“ explores how a woman sees herself through the reflection built by others. The ornate mirror holds her lips like a sacred symbol, surrounded by rays of red strings that pull in every direction. They come from the world outside, from beauty standards, from opinions,… from silent rules that dictate what it means to be "enough". The girl is caught inside this delicate web of expectations, where her reflection is no longer her own. The mirror becomes both an altar and a cage, capturing the image society wants to see.
This artwork is a part of the series “My borders”. This series explores the female experience through roles, expectations, and inner conflicts. It reflects the emotional and physical survival of women in the modern world, where care, vulnerability, and strength exist at the same time.
