About this artwork
The painting “Magic of the Meadow” (green) (120x100 cm; oil on canvas) was painted on the occasion of the summer solstice. It is a very special period when all nature blooms, where colors vibrate. For the Nordic and Baltic countries, this moment is full of magic: it is the shortest night of the year. I chose to represent the meadow in the evening light – as a play between the dark gray and purple shades of the sky and the tones of the flowers – orange,… green and white. I used oil paints and a palette knife for thick, expressive lines. The horizon line is orange – we don't know what's behind it, but the atmosphere and scents of summer reign on this side, in the foreground of the painting. And in the distance, the orange horizon line lets the viewer imagine the reflection of a flash of light or a field of poppies in bloom.
