About this artwork
In Night of Fireflies, a deep indigo night settles over the meadow, softening every outline until the flowers and grasses become a single, breathing silhouette. From this velvety darkness, I imagine tiny points of warm light beginning to rise – fireflies drifting slowly above the ground like a constellation that has slipped from the sky.
I painted this scene in acrylics, layering cool blues, purples and deep greens to build up the night air and the… gentle movement of the wild meadow. Among the grasses, you can sense the presence of wildflowers – lupines and other field blooms. Small touches of yellow and gold acrylic bring the fireflies to life, creating a soft vibration between darkness and light.
Night of Fireflies is part of my Magic of the Meadow series, and I think of it as a meditation on fragile light in a vast darkness – a visual poem about how, even in the quietest, most hidden hours, small shimmering presences continue to shine and remind us that we are not alone.
