This is oil pastel piece is a self-portrait titled „i can‘t remember“, based on a poem I‘ve written under the same name. The poem and drawing play on a diary entry I‘ve written when I was 17. I‘ve recently discovered the entry and, upon reading it, realised the memory of my first love in this world has gotten completely corrupted over my years of mulling over the experience. I wondered, do we really, truly ever remember our own memories? Especially… the traumatic histories of a broken lover?
„ hand to hand, i said
i don‘t remember that touch
i‘ve forgotten what was before
yet never let go
i still think about you, all the time
and i‘ve forgotten what you look like
reading the woman-child
i‘ll never remember him
you destroyed me, she said
you wrecked me in my nature
you“ (i can‘t remember, 2025)
Letizia Geltz, a self-taught painter, channels her love for the human body through her art. She uses a bold, abstract style with a strong emphasis on colour and technique, capturing not only the figure but also the character of her subjects. Her works, often signified by the aggressive, sensual use of red, vividly express sensuality and introspection with a hint of cruelty.
