About this artwork
When I look at this painting, I find myself deeply moved by the contrast between vastness and introspection. It captures a moment of quiet connection in an otherwise chaotic world. The massive, swirling grey clouds seem almost overwhelming, symbolizing a turbulent inner state or a looming external challenge.
Yet, the girl, with her windswept, fiery red hair, holds all the focus in her hands. The central question for me is, what does the snail represent?… Is it an unburdened consciousness, unaware of the abyss it inhabits, or is it a small island of calm for the girl? This piece feels like a contemplation of identity, innocence, and finding sanctuary in the smallest details when faced with the overwhelming expanse of life.
I am a Lithuanian artist with more than three decades of experience in visual art, rooted in fresco, bas-relief, and monumental painting. Shaped by European cultural heritage and the old masters, I developed my practice through large-scale commissions for public and private interiors, where I learned to work with structure, surface, atmosphere, and emotional presence. Although I have worked in art for over 30 years, I began focusing on canvas painting only three years ago, which is why my exhibition history in this field is still emerging. In my paintings, I explore the human figure, quiet psychological tension, and the fragile balance between beauty and vulnerability. My wider practice also includes children’s book illustrations, album cover designs, and I was selected to paint for the film The Peasants.
