About this artwork
Great Alpine Road reflects my fascination with the quiet poetry of the Australian landscape. Inspired by a journey on the alpine road, from Harrietville to Mount Hotham in Victoria. The work combines imagined flora, drifting light and native currawongs to evoke a sense of stillness, memory and wonder. The delicate balance between softness and intensity speaks to the fragility of nature and our emotional connection to place. I wanted the painting… to feel both intimate and expansive, like a fleeting moment glimpsed thru the cold mist, along the winding mountain road.
Lisa Buckland is a painter and digital artist with a background in graphic design, later enriched by studies in Japanese calligraphy and dedicated artistic mentorship. She masterfully blends acrylic, watercolour, ink, and digital media, using reduced forms, mark making, and dynamic dots to create figurative works with abstract elements. Her art profoundly evokes both delight and connection to the natural world, inviting viewers to reflect on time, memory, and the beauty and fragility of life.
