About this artwork
The Memory Trees reflects on the legacy of gold mining and the lasting imprint it left on both the landscape and my family history. Once scarred by hydraulic sluicing and blasting, these mountains and valleys have slowly been reclaimed by nature. The glowing trees and violets in the work become symbols of memory, resilience and connection — linking generations of my family to the Victorian Goldfields & mining town of Harrietville, to my mother’s…
garden, where my Aunty Emmy’s violets continued to flourish.
