About this artwork
Unlike other works in the Holding the Void series, this painting resists settling. Instead of allowing a single gesture to remain, I return to the surface repeatedly — layering, rewriting, partially erasing. Earlier interpretations of the canvas persist beneath the visible image, leaving traces that cannot be fully removed.
The painting holds its own history. Each layer interrupts the previous one, yet never fully replaces it. What remains are echoes… — submerged gestures, suppressed color decisions, fragments of earlier compositions that continue to vibrate beneath the surface.
This instability is not failure but method. The image stops only when I decide to release it — not when it feels complete.
Liudmila Anoshenkova, a multimedia artist, has a background in art history with a focus on painting, nurtured by traditional fine art institutions. She intertwines oil, acrylic, and spray paint layers to create richly textured works, while finding freedom on unstretched canvases, exploring contrasts and escaping traditional composition. Her works, lively with color and pulse with a deep appreciation for life, convey raw and intense emotions hidden beneath delicate florals, creating spaces for emotional vulnerability.
