About this artwork
The Black Window in My Studio”
This work was inspired by my studio in the Atelierhaus Lehárgasse, part of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The building, once known as the Semperdepot, was originally constructed in the 19th century to house theater set production for the imperial court. Its industrial structure — rich with history — now serves as a space for contemporary artistic practice.
The painting draws from this intersection of eras: the grandeur… of imperial design and the raw imprint of today’s urban landscape. Graffiti-like gestures intertwine with fading petals and soft brushwork, referencing the transformation of spaces and ideas. The flower’s form dissolves into abstraction, hinting at cycles of blooming and decay, presence and transition. Like the building itself, the image speaks of continuity through change — and of beauty found in unexpected layers.
