About this artwork
Vines — Green on Purple / Purple on Green forms a diptych on the rhythm of the seasons. The canvases frame the vine as closely as possible: leaves, veins, grape clusters in the background. I chose to invert the colors (green on purple, then purple on green) to reveal what the eye forgets: the vine is constantly changing, but its tempo is no longer quite the same. The inversion becomes a sign: summer stretching out, autumn arriving too quickly, shifted… harvests, water stress… The gesture remains pictorial and sensual (superimpositions, reserves, clear lines); the subject, contemporary. Presented in a wine cellar in Biarritz, these paintings play with the pleasure of tasting. To look at the vine, here, is to love it and watch over it.
Laurianne Birre is a painter and visual artist trained in applied arts, then enriched by a self-taught career guided by travel, diving and collaboration with ocean stakeholders. She works on paper and canvas, mixing washes, glazes, opaque passages of acrylic and inks, enhanced with pastel, linocut and collage, to compose an organic universe evoking marine ecosystems. Her fluid and layered gestures create suspended landscapes where beauty and fragility echo each other. Laurianne invites joyful contemplation and awareness of collective responsibility.
