About this artwork
Where are we going? The artist depicts a group of people walking in different directions as their lives are going in different directions. They do not know each other but their paths are crossing each other at this very moment. This is life. None knows where the other is going or what he is thinking, what is in his mind. Time goes by but for a second their life has been fixed on that striped crossing.
« The aim is to express in the pictures sentiments felt during an action, thoughts, dialogue, and communication while a situation is happening. »
Luciana Mathioudakis is an Italian-Greek artist currently based in Brussels. She is an experienced artist who has spent more than two decades studying painting in various studios and workshops. While for the majority of her career Mathioudakis worked exclusively with oil and pastel paints, she recently switched to beeswax applied to panel, a system that dates back to ancient Greece. Her work explores how people orient themselves in various spaces, especially within crowds, as well as the broader theme of movement as a form of dialogue between people.
