About this artwork
Strangford Lough is the largest sea inlet in Ireland and it’s shallow waters are home to many birds and unique aquatic species. On the narrow winding road that skirts the Lough from Greyabbey to Newtownards there are few places to stop and appreciate the view, but it is worth taking the time out of the traffic to find them. This work brings you a moment when the low evening sun escaped from a bank of cloud to light up the water and the pools of the… rocky shore. I hope you find this beautiful lough as captivating as I do.
Maire Gaffney is an Irish artist who works mainly in acrylic and oils. She employs a realist, traditional approach, using layering techniques to evoke depth and perspective in her paintings of Irish and European landscapes. Her work celebrates vibrant colour and shifting light, inviting viewers to take time in our increasingly pressured lives to stop and reconnect with the serenity and everyday magic to be found in nature’s most fleeting moments.
