About this artwork
This… non-linear journey challenges our observations and encourages a deeper process of reflection on nature and its processes. It asks the question, where is life’s meaning - if not on the edges of the void, or destined to broil on the surface? After all, the same carbon chemistry makes up all known life on Earth.
Oxidised copper sheet. Coated with a micro-crystalline wax polish. Mounted to an oil-painted 6mm wooden panel with 6mm spacing blocks in between.

« Membrane Art is a doorway to endless possibilities. It’s heavily dependent upon the geometric surface which underpins it, and until it's unraveled, we are blind to all possible outcomes. »
Through this personal framework, my practice explores structural form, material stress, and sensory limitation. I deliberately restrict visual feedback by painting, cutting, drilling, heating, and chemically transforming linen, synthetic membrane, and copper while the material is held in severely curved or coiled states. In doing so, I rely on tactile intuition, physical resistance, and unpredictable material behaviour to shape the work.
Since 2004, I have developed this distinct methodology as Membrane Art—a lifelong exploration of tension and tranquillity, chaos and resolve. From curvature to flat: one expression becomes many—the memory of the curve made tangible.
