About this artwork
'Yellow Corals' is the luminous counterpart to an investigation into rhythm and underwater life. In this 40cm tondo, María Martínez Araújo uses the frequency of vibrant yellow to capture the energy of the sun filtering through the water, illuminating the unhurried movement of nature.
The artwork features four hand-cut wooden elements, seemingly floating in dynamic equilibrium against a background of deep blues. This piece was conceived to engage… in dialogue with its companion piece, 'Red Corals,' creating a play of scales, colors, and rhythms that enrich the inhabited space.
This work stands out for its visual optimism and geometric precision. It is a piece that exudes lightness and order, designed to act as a source of light and calm in any room, reminding us that harmony lies in the constant interplay of elements.
With over 25 years of experience in artistic research, María Martínez Araújo's work is an exercise in synthesis between geometric order and emotional impulse. Her artistic language was consolidated during her time as a social educator, where painting emerged not only as a tool for personal balance, but also as a profound exploration of the human need for structure and harmony. Initially influenced by the ornamental richness of Gustav Klimt, María has evolved toward a geometric abstraction centered on what she calls Frequencies: concentric structures that act as visual anchor points. Her work invites the viewer on a centripetal journey, starting from a vibrant core and moving toward a controlled expansion of color. Throughout his career, he has experimented with various media, notably his participation in institutional projects in the provinces of Valladolid and Huesca.
