About this artwork
In The Chemistry of Everything, I collapse the boundaries between the scientific and the human, suggesting that all experience—emotional, physical, and societal—is governed by unseen reactions. The figure appears both constructed and unraveling, a vessel of forces beyond its control. Chemical diagrams and equations hover like a language we trust but rarely understand, while raw, gestural marks disrupt their authority. I am interested in this tension:… order versus chaos, knowledge versus instinct. The body becomes a site of reaction, absorbing pressure, history, and energy. Ultimately, the work proposes that existence itself is a volatile compound—unstable, interconnected, and perpetually in flux.

Marc Rayner is an Australian artist based in Sweden who has exhibited his works nationally, as well as in Sweden, Monaco, France, Qatar, Italy, India, South Korea, Denmark, and Japan. The key to his artworks is the creation of 'quasi-landscapes' rich in text and design, or flat and almost devoid of information. This 'distorted zone' is a place where Rayner's tormented, disenfranchised, and often unfortunate characters exist. He is drawn to outsider artistic styles and naive art in broader terms.
