About this artwork
In this work, "In the Grass," from the series "Body Images – Shy Gazes of Desire," I bring the male torso so close that it becomes a landscape. The face remains untouched; identity recedes in favor of a serene presence. What becomes visible is a silent field of tension between fabric, skin, and grass: the folds of the trousers like small reliefs, the hand as a still anchor, the breath as a barely perceptible movement in the abdomen.
I am interested… in desire that doesn't seize, but hesitates – a gaze that lingers respectfully. The physical weight of lying down meets the delicacy of touch: fingers on fabric, fabric on body, body in the greenery. This creates an intimate closeness that remains shy at the same time: not a pose, but a moment; not revelation, but suggestion.

Marcel van Beek works with photography, painting, and graphic design, drawing on his artistic background from his studies at the Alanus University of Art and Social Sciences. His technique combines pictorialist influences with romantic-symbolist imagery.
