It is a large face built by cold working the galvanized and manually molded electro-welded wire mesh, but also intertwined with metal wires. The technique recalls the dexterity of the craftsmen who work the wicker baskets and each part is the result of layers that have been overlapped and sewn together by the metal wire. The face also has a symbolic meaning: the identity of a person is built over time by the aggregation of events that leave their… mark. The title of this sculpture, "Network Identity", also alludes to the virtual identity in the internet, as ambiguous, vulnerable and apparently impersonal as an avatar. The face refers to idols of other civilizations and presents a certain exoticism in the somatic characters.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
