About this artwork
The painting depicts a view of the city of Padua: a glimpse of Piazza Garibaldi and Via Santa Lucia, seen from inside the Mondadori bookstore. The perspectives of the two urban spaces open up a wide view of the urban architecture on a sunny day in March. Several books can be glimpsed in the foreground. The title "Doppio Gioco" (Double Game) is inspired by a Tex comic book with a prominent red cover, but at the same time it also alludes to the game… played by the author, creating a double perspective, wider than what is visible to the naked eye. Finally, the books themselves are fictional: they are actually exhibition catalogs by the author and covers of published literary works that have featured paintings by the same artist, Marco Ronga. The canvas is deep-edge, painted on the sides by the artist so it can be displayed without a frame.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
