About this artwork
The title defiantly refers to the famous classic icons of amorous passion painted by Hayez and Klimt. Yet the painting does not at all suggest the ideal fusion, both physical and cerebral, between two lovers. The contact is only physical and implies neither intimacy nor harmony. Each of the partners seems to seek closeness only to oppose a barrier in front of the other. One hand of each partner in fact closes the mouth of the other making the exchange… impossible.
Thus "the kiss" becomes a metaphor: on the one hand a shortcut to silence the other and to put aside misunderstandings; on the other hand it shows the impossibility of overcoming the barriers that lovers inevitably build against each other and that prevent mutual understanding ... the twisted and broken branches that intertwine are a metaphor for feelings and interpersonal bonds.

Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
