About this artwork
Freestyle wrestling is one of two Olympic wrestling styles. Unlike the Greco-Roman wrestling, in free wrestling you can perform throwing, knockdown or overturning techniques that involve actions on the legs. The two male bodies are entwined: the moment of the fight represented is the topical one. The plastic poses of the bodies are highlighted through the chromatic choices of the complexions and muscles. Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies".
