About this artwork
The painting takes as a pretext the myth of the gecko of the Medusa, which is one of the three Gorgons, who had the power to petrify anyone who met their gaze; in most of the versions she is beheaded by Perseus, a Greek hero who neutralizes her by causing the Medusa to look at herself in a mirror. The Greek myths give concreteness to the fears and deep impulses of the human being. Painting can be liberating and cathartic and often uses even mythological… images to stage the unconscious. The colors in this case are more than ever those of emotions, therefore contrasting and bright in full expressionist style. The outlines of the masonite board are irregular but overall the overall dimensions of the composition are about 44 cm by 44.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
