About this artwork
Evening advances on Venice. The painting portrays the canal of the Greeks with the bell tower of the church of San Giorgio del Bacino di San Marco in the distance, seen from the top floor of a Gothic building where the artist lived in his youth. The intense blues clash with the bright greens and yellows of the artificial lights. However, the expressionist palette finds its soothing balance thanks to the poignant beauty of the city.
The painting… is made of acrylics on masonite but has a particularity. It is a painting that could be called "double face" since another subject was painted on the back of the table. Same expressionist colors but dreamlike image of a couple, man-woman suspended in the air on a landscape similar to an ocean with coral atolls. The visionary subject created on the back of the Venetian landscape possibly offers the possibility of changing the subject to be exhibited.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
