About this artwork
In this painting, the study of the body respects anatomy but alters the color relationships, exaggerating the contrasts in an expressionist manner. The areas hit by light are rendered with yellow and its derivatives. The mid-tones and shadows of the body are colored in orange, beige, green, and brown. The background is purple and light blue, and by contrast, it enhances the three-dimensionality of the body. The frame is 11 centimeters wide and was… crafted by the artist from solid wood, harmonizing the colors with the composition of the painting, which, with the frame, measures 91 x 91 x 4 cm.
The study of the human figure and the psychological introspection of faces are further fields of experimentation for Marco Ronga, often characterized by the use of Fauvist, bright, and anti-naturalistic colors, a tribute to European Expressionism. Western tradition emerges in various ways: Classicism manifests itself in the autonomy and centrality of Man, who can become both the subject and the background of the composition.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
