About this artwork
A girl with a rosy complexion, auburn hair and blue eyes observes us through a frame which is basically the shape of the wooden tablet that supports the picture. The amber color and warm russet hue also form the background of the composition. The small picture subverts the order of things: here we are the ones being scrutinized by the inquiring eye of the girl who from being the passive subject of the picture becomes an active part and examines us…
carefully. As in the Renaissance tables, the hand has also been painted, suggesting the idea of depth beyond the amber color of the background.
