"Breathing" is an illustration made with colored pencils (Faber Castell polychromos) on 200g/m2 paper, 20x20cm format. The portrait is inspired by a photograph of Ameena Holee with Angela Selvaraiah. The choice of green tones echoes the vegetation and the circular framing a living and vegetated planet. The relaxed face of the portrait inspires calm, appeasement and can also deduce a feeling of acceptance and self-love. In this portrait (and like… that of "Self Embrace"), I wanted to transcribe a moment where we let go of what can harm us, to ourselves or to our environment, as a moment of resilience against the various aggressions that Man can cause (his destructive impact on our environment but also the injustices and social distress that take place in the world).
Marie Casaÿs, with a background in drawing and graphic design, is an accomplished artist who has specialized in colored pencil drawing on paper since 2018. Through meticulous gradient work and intense colors, inspired by photographic projects, she creates a modern, figurative and poetic graphic dynamic. The main themes of her works, namely the body, nudity and eroticism, are imbued with a warmth, elegance, and sensoriality that invite a deep and moving exploration of identity and love.
