About this artwork
In Claim 158, I work with a pronounced vertical structure that allows the image to grow like a vibrant field of color. The portrait format of 110 × 90 cm allows me to clearly direct movement and density downwards, while the upper area develops more lightly and openly.
I use intense shades of yellow, red, green, and blue, which overlap through pouring, dripping, and deliberate manipulation of the paint. I am particularly interested in the interplay… between control and chance. The paint is allowed to flow and react, while at the same time I consciously intervene in the process to create balance and tension.
In the lower area, the layers condense into an energetic zone, while towards the top a certain openness develops. For me, this creates an abstract space that oscillates between dynamism and stillness.
