About this artwork
When I created Swell, I wanted to capture the moment the ocean gathers its strength — that deep breath before a wave breaks. I sculpted the surface with plaster and layered acrylic, epoxy, and other materials to build the sense of movement beneath the water. The dark blues hold the depth and weight of the sea, while the white and teal along the crest mark the instant energy rises toward release. For me, this piece is about power held in stillness,…
the rhythm of nature, and the quiet force that lives beneath every beginning.

I was born in Germany and now divide my time between California’s Sequoia National Forest and the rolling hills of Umbria, Italy. I have been creating for as long as I can remember and was rarely without a pencil, crayon, or paintbrush in my hand as a child. Although life eventually led me to build and run a successful company and later become an author, creativity has always been my true north. After decades of writing about authenticity, healing, and personal transformation, I now explore many of the same themes through art. One of my greatest joys has been opening my own studio and gallery in California, where I create large-scale mixed-media works using plaster, paint, epoxy, glass, and found materials. I believe art is more than decoration—it has the power to influence how we feel, think, and experience the spaces around us. My goal is to create work that brings beauty, joy, and a sense of possibility into people's lives.
